The Sweetest Leather Conditioner: Leather Honey Review

I was asked if I would do a review of Leather Honey if they sent some to me to try.  I love doing product reviews and getting to try new things, especially when I find something that works really well so that I can share it with my blog readers.  I was really impressed with this product and have several photos to show how well it works.  I really like that Leather Honey is

Keeping our endurance horses hydrated

I ran across this interesting article on the U of Mn website awhile ago and thought it was interesting enough to share: Voluntary Water Intake in Horses When Fed a Dry versus Mash Grain in Two Different Seasons

I don’t often change my horse’s feed around, once I find something that works really well I tend to stick with it.  Fortunately back in 2010 I learned about Elk Grove Milling Stable Mix and got

Horse Ride Prep + My Favorite Horse Feed (aka Bo and Chiefy’s favorite feed)

Just back from the feed store, where I picked up a couple of bags of Elk Grove’s Sport Horse Mix.  They had to special order it for me.

Ever since I heard about the Sport Horse Mix I’ve been dying to give it a try. My horses have been on the regular Elk Grove Stable Mix formula for years, and they are thriving on it.  Not only do the horses love it, but it

Endurance Day for October – Riders from 9 to 89

I know I’m having a great time being a co-host on the Horse Radio Network for the Endurance Day show.

The show has been quite popular so far and hopefully we will be able to keep improving the ratings.

This month we interviewed junior rider Lacey Bainbridge, who is the 9 year old junior that is currently leading in the AERC National Mileage Junior category.  She did such a great job, especially considering

Product Review: GroomLights

Photo of Bo taken about 9 1/2 hours after completing the 2013 Tevis.

I’ve had an interesting experience with the Photonic Horse Massage Lights.  The week before Tevis, Donnis Thran came over and did a Bioscan and Massage Light treatment on Bo.  I had never seen that done before though know many other endurance riders that have.  My previous blog post on that can be found here.

Donnis was nice enough to allow

Product Reviews: EquiFlexSleeves

Now that I have had a chance to use the Equiflexsleeves for a couple of dozen rides this season, on both of my horses I feel that I’m able to offer up a more thorough review.

At first I was a bit skeptical that these would work, or work as well as the traditional method of wrapping legs.

I am always looking for ways to do things that are easier, or faster, with less

Product Reviews: Headlamps

Last loop of the Owyhee 100, just before dark. Headlamp is on my helmet but not turned on. Photo by Nannette Young.

Some of my assorted headlamps. I prefer the lighter/smaller versions. The newest one that has the night vision light on it is on the bottom left (Energizer brand).

I’ve used a variety of headlamps over the years.  I use them all winter long when feeding.  I also use them at

Product Reviews: Da Brim Helmet Visor

Karen and Chief: Owyhee Fandango 50, 2012. Photo by Nannette Young.

Recently I had the opportunity to try out a new helmet visor.  I had been using a Salamander helmet visor along with a bandana that I velcroed to the back of the helmet to keep the sun off of my neck.  Over time, the velcro always wants to peel up especially where the visor goes.  That would mean re-gluing the velcro back
