Ride Report and Photos: Sesenta Anos 2013

I have a weak spot for new rides, or rides that I haven’t been to before that I *could* go to.  That was the case with John Parke’s Sesenta Anos ride that was held November 16 and 17, 2013 near Santa Barbara, CA.

The ride was to celebrate John’s 60th birthday.  It worked out well that I was able to stop in Ventura and visit with my family both coming and going.  And I

End of Ride Season — Almost! Goals Anyone?

It’s almost the end of the 2013 ride season, which has no doubt ended already for many riders.  We are fortunate in the West and PS regions, as there have been rides in November so we’ve been able to keep riding and can do so nearly year around.

Just a reminder for those AERC members and anyone interested in becoming a new member that the 2014 ride season starts on December 1, 2013.  Click

Bryce XP 2013

Had a nice ride at the Bryce ride (aka Paunsaguant XP) – four more days to round out the fall trip to a total of 14 ride days and 700 miles.

Chief and Bo both completed 7 days of the rides–350 miles each, plus each also went out a few days to mark or scout trail.  They both got quite the workout!

We achieved our goals for the season, which was pretty cool –

Outlaw to Bryce GPS Ride 2013

Point to point rides are among my favorite rides.  The only other P2P ride I’ve done this season was Tevis, so I figured that on this one I’d take Chief.

Chief really does best on those kinds of rides, or at least on the ones where we are out of camp all day.  It’s a lot of fun to be ‘going somewhere’.  Kind of what makes continuing to do endurance worth doing for me

Outlaw and Virgin XP 2013

Long story short, after I got to the camp at Outlaw and Virgin and got all set up and disconnected my truck it wouldn’t start a couple of hours later.  We have good cell service in this camp so I called US Rider and they sent the tow truck to take my truck to the diesel mechanic in Kanab.

The problem ended up being human caused.  Somebody previously had replaced o-rings in the high

2013 Grand Canyon XP

I just got home from spending more than a month in Arizona and Utah.  I had a great adventure with my horses Chief, Bo and Maya (my dog).  The best part is that we were able to ride all 14 days (700 miles) of rides, split evenly between both horses.  We also got in some great rides scouting and/or marking trail as well.

The weather wasn’t very cooperative at the Grand Canyon though in

EHSC 2013 Ride Report and Photos

Had a great ride last Saturday at the EHSC 50 on Chief.  Here are a few photos.  My batteries died on the first loop so most of the photos are from the 2nd loop.

I rode really carefully, since I am am now headed to the Grand Canyon, Outlaw and Virgin and Bryce XP rides.  I’m hoping to alternate both horses.  Bo needs one more day to reach 7,000 miles and if I am

Pro Bono’s 3rd Tevis – What a Ride! Part 3

Every vet check, every step forward on the trail meant that we were getting closer to Auburn and to our goal of another Tevis completion.  I had a lot of confidence as we left out of Foresthill because our vet check there had gone so well.  We trotted through town, past a lot of cheering onlookers and residents.

I don’t remember for certain if I caught up to two other riders, or if they

Pro Bono’s 3rd Tevis – What a Ride! Part 2

As soon as Bo peed, we left RF and headed out down the road.  This is one of the few places on the trail that you can make good time on.  Zach was about 7 minutes behind, and he was late getting out so it took even longer for him to catch me than I thought it would.  I let Bo walk for awhile to let Zach catch us.  Then finally, he caught me

Tevis Rider Swag Bag – we got lots of goodies this year!

We had a great ride this  year.  Everything fell into place for us in so many ways.  I actually entered early and planned ahead for the ride this year.  And still managed to avoid any Gremlins!

We got up to Robie Park on Friday morning before the ride and got set up by 9 a.m..  It’s nice that we are only
