Jupiter!

Have you checked out Jupiter?  It’s really bright right now!

Some fun photos, with a useful tip!

We had fun taking these photos today.  Bo is always so good natured about everything.  He doesn’t even mind being dressed up in tack that would embarrass some horses <g>.

He’s wearing beta biothane in black with a yellow overlay.  I thought I would like it more than I did.  Now after seeing how Bo looks in it though, maybe I’ll use it on him sometime.

These photos were taken on trails in my

Improving my horse’s heart rate recoveries

My horses have both been doing really well this year with their heart rate recoveries on rides.  It’s kind of cool to see the improvement.

For example – this year on the Tevis I never had to wait for Bo to be down to or below criteria.  That kept us from having to wait in lines and got us through the checks in quick order.  That was great!

When I rode Chief at Bryce

Would you like to have the night sky on your computer?

Stellarium is a really cool program that you can use to view a simulation of the night sky in realtime – basically your own personal desktop planetarium!  This means that the skies will look exactly like what you see with your eyes, binoculars or a small telescope.  You can set it to real time, reverse or go forward and go even faster or slower!  It’s easy to zoom in on objects as well as

Useful things to have in the horse trailer

Here are a couple of items that I keep in my horse trailer in case I need to repair something: 1) Dental Floss and 2) Fishing Line.

Not much beats the old standby of duct tape and hay string!  However, sometimes you’ll need to fix something that has torn or come apart.

That’s where having items on hand such as dental floss or fishing line can come in handy.  I keep a small sewing

major…Major…MAJOR goal accomplished! check!!!!

I’m still not entirely sure I believe that it actually happened!  I just checked what I had written at the start of the 2010 ride season.  These were my goals:

I would like to do at least one 1-day 100 this year. I’d also like for Bo to reach 2,000 miles. I’d like to reach both 25k and 26k mile in 2010. I’d like for Chief to achieve 10,000 miles.

So how have things

More on waterproof rain gear – the bottom half!

Note that I said “waterproof”, versus water resistant.  There is a big difference.   I just got around to replacing my Goretex waterproof shell pants this year.  I used my last pair for more than 17 years and they were no longer working to keep me dry.  The material was also starting to show it’s age so I decided it was finally time.

I have other Goretex pants that were used for skiing and are

Looking for a waterproof rain shell?

Now is the time to get prepared for upcoming rides that might be wet!  I love waterproof shell clothing because it’s so easy to layer.  I also really like hooded shells because I can put my helmet on over the hood and my head and neck will stay dry.

Backpacker magazine just did a review of rain jacket shells.  I’ll post their info and list below so you can read about each jacket they

Bryce XP 2010: The anything but ordinary ride!!

After all of the drama during the pre-ride preparations I was really looking forward to the actual ride.  This trip was already the kind that made me appreciate all of the rides I’ve done where everything falls into place and things just….go right.  It wasn’t happening quite that way this year, and not just for me but for others as well.  Or it could be that I was just more aware of other people
